## Compare

### Solveo AI vs Intercom

How Solveo AI compares to Intercom on AI approach, pricing model, channel coverage, and setup time.

| Aspect | Solveo AI | Intercom |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI approach | AI-first: every plan, including Free, includes a full autonomous AI agent. | AI is typically layered onto Intercom's core helpdesk/messaging product, often as a separate add-on. |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, unlimited AI usage within each plan's conversation limit. | Check Intercom's current pricing page directly — helpdesk pricing models change frequently and often separate seats from AI add-on costs. |
| Channels | 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce. | Channel coverage and which channels include AI vary by Intercom plan — see their current documentation for specifics. |
| Setup | No-code agent builder with guided onboarding. Most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes. | Setup time varies with how much of Intercom's AI configuration and knowledge base import is required. |
| AI providers | Choose from 10 providers (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, Z.AI) per agent. | Intercom typically ships with a single proprietary or vendor-selected model, not a choice across providers. |

Solveo AI and Intercom both help businesses handle customer conversations, but they start from different places. Intercom began as a customer messaging platform and later added an AI agent, Fin, on top of its existing ticketing and messaging products. Solveo AI was built AI-first: every plan, including the free tier, ships with a complete autonomous AI agent rather than a messaging inbox with AI bolted on.

## Where the platforms differ most

The clearest difference is in how AI is priced and packaged. Intercom separates its base messaging/ticketing product from its Fin AI agent, so the total cost depends on team size, ticket volume, and how much AI usage you need — check Intercom's current pricing page for exact figures, since helpdesk pricing structures change frequently. Solveo AI uses flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, with AI usage included up to each plan's conversation limit.

The second difference is model choice. Solveo AI lets you pick from 10 AI providers — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, and Z.AI — per agent, so you can match the model to the use case or switch providers without changing platforms.

## Migrating from Intercom

If you're moving from Intercom, export your existing help center articles and import them into the Solveo AI knowledge base. Connect the channels you already use — chat widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, or Slack — and your AI agent will answer from the same content your Intercom-powered help center used. Most teams complete this in an afternoon.

### Solveo AI vs Zendesk

How Solveo AI compares to Zendesk on AI approach, pricing model, channel coverage, and setup time.

| Aspect | Solveo AI | Zendesk |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI approach | AI-first: every plan, including Free, includes a full autonomous AI agent. | AI is typically layered onto Zendesk's core helpdesk/messaging product, often as a separate add-on. |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, unlimited AI usage within each plan's conversation limit. | Check Zendesk's current pricing page directly — helpdesk pricing models change frequently and often separate seats from AI add-on costs. |
| Channels | 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce. | Channel coverage and which channels include AI vary by Zendesk plan — see their current documentation for specifics. |
| Setup | No-code agent builder with guided onboarding. Most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes. | Setup time varies with how much of Zendesk's AI configuration and knowledge base import is required. |
| AI providers | Choose from 10 providers (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, Z.AI) per agent. | Zendesk typically ships with a single proprietary or vendor-selected model, not a choice across providers. |

Solveo AI and Zendesk both serve customer support teams, but they solve a different primary problem. Zendesk is an enterprise ticketing platform with AI features layered on top of its support suite. Solveo AI is an AI agent platform first — it resolves conversations autonomously across 11 channels by default, rather than routing every conversation into a ticket queue for a human to triage.

## Where the platforms differ most

Zendesk's strength is ticket management at enterprise scale: routing rules, SLAs, and reporting across large support teams. Its AI features assist agents and can auto-respond to some queries, but the core workflow still assumes a human eventually touches most tickets. Solveo AI flips that assumption — the AI agent is the first responder on every channel, with escalation to a human only when a rule triggers (sentiment, topic, or an explicit request).

For teams already running Zendesk, Solveo AI can replace the AI layer: it resolves the easy conversations on its own channels, while a human queue still handles the tickets that need a person.

## Is Solveo AI enterprise-ready?

The Enterprise plan includes custom integrations, SLA guarantees, and dedicated support — the same category of commitments enterprise teams expect from Zendesk. If you're evaluating a full migration, [contact sales](/contact) to scope the transition, including data import and channel cutover.

### Solveo AI vs Gorgias

How Solveo AI compares to Gorgias for e-commerce AI support on Shopify and WooCommerce.

| Aspect | Solveo AI | Gorgias |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI approach | AI-first: every plan, including Free, includes a full autonomous AI agent. | AI is typically layered onto Gorgias's core helpdesk/messaging product, often as a separate add-on. |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, unlimited AI usage within each plan's conversation limit. | Check Gorgias's current pricing page directly — helpdesk pricing models change frequently and often separate seats from AI add-on costs. |
| Channels | 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce. | Channel coverage and which channels include AI vary by Gorgias plan — see their current documentation for specifics. |
| Setup | No-code agent builder with guided onboarding. Most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes. | Setup time varies with how much of Gorgias's AI configuration and knowledge base import is required. |
| AI providers | Choose from 10 providers (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, Z.AI) per agent. | Gorgias typically ships with a single proprietary or vendor-selected model, not a choice across providers. |

Solveo AI and Gorgias both target e-commerce support, but the scope is different. Gorgias is a helpdesk built specifically for Shopify and other e-commerce platforms, with AI automation available as part of its plans. Solveo AI is a general-purpose AI agent platform with Shopify and WooCommerce support, plus the chat widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack, WordPress, a help page, an agent chat page, and the API.

## Where the platforms differ most

If your support volume is entirely e-commerce order questions, both platforms will look similar on the surface: connect your store, let the AI look up orders and manage carts, resolve the conversation. The difference shows up as your channel mix grows. Solveo AI's Shopify integration (one-click OAuth plus a Theme App Extension embed — no ScriptTag) and free WooCommerce plugin give the AI agent the same live access to products, orders, carts, and customer profiles that Gorgias provides, but the same agent also answers on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, WordPress, and a hosted agent page — all sharing one knowledge base and one set of escalation rules.

## WooCommerce support

Gorgias's WooCommerce integration is more limited than its Shopify integration. Solveo AI supports WooCommerce natively via a free WordPress.org plugin that connects to the Store API, giving WooCommerce merchants the same depth of e-commerce actions available on Shopify.

### Solveo AI vs Tidio

How Solveo AI compares to Tidio on AI approach, pricing model, channel coverage, and setup time.

| Aspect | Solveo AI | Tidio |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI approach | AI-first: every plan, including Free, includes a full autonomous AI agent. | AI is typically layered onto Tidio's core helpdesk/messaging product, often as a separate add-on. |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, unlimited AI usage within each plan's conversation limit. | Check Tidio's current pricing page directly — helpdesk pricing models change frequently and often separate seats from AI add-on costs. |
| Channels | 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce. | Channel coverage and which channels include AI vary by Tidio plan — see their current documentation for specifics. |
| Setup | No-code agent builder with guided onboarding. Most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes. | Setup time varies with how much of Tidio's AI configuration and knowledge base import is required. |
| AI providers | Choose from 10 providers (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, Z.AI) per agent. | Tidio typically ships with a single proprietary or vendor-selected model, not a choice across providers. |

Solveo AI and Tidio both serve small businesses that need chat support without a large team. Tidio is a live-chat and chatbot tool that combines rule-based conversation flows with AI chat features. Solveo AI is built entirely around AI agents — every conversation is grounded in your own knowledge base via retrieval-augmented generation, rather than following a scripted flow with occasional AI assistance.

## Where the platforms differ most

The practical difference shows up when a question falls outside a scripted flow. A rule-based chatbot either fails to match a rule and hands off, or gives a generic answer. A Solveo AI agent retrieves the relevant part of your knowledge base and generates a specific answer, and can go further — looking up an order, updating a cart, or booking an appointment — because it can call real actions, not just display text.

## Is Solveo AI affordable for a small team switching from Tidio?

Yes. The Free plan (50 conversations/month, no credit card required) and $39/month Starter plan are priced for exactly the audience Tidio targets — small teams that have outgrown a rule-based widget and want a real AI agent without an enterprise price tag.

### Solveo AI vs Crisp

How Solveo AI compares to Crisp on AI approach, pricing model, channel coverage, and setup time.

| Aspect | Solveo AI | Crisp |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI approach | AI-first: every plan, including Free, includes a full autonomous AI agent. | AI is typically layered onto Crisp's core helpdesk/messaging product, often as a separate add-on. |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, unlimited AI usage within each plan's conversation limit. | Check Crisp's current pricing page directly — helpdesk pricing models change frequently and often separate seats from AI add-on costs. |
| Channels | 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce. | Channel coverage and which channels include AI vary by Crisp plan — see their current documentation for specifics. |
| Setup | No-code agent builder with guided onboarding. Most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes. | Setup time varies with how much of Crisp's AI configuration and knowledge base import is required. |
| AI providers | Choose from 10 providers (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, Z.AI) per agent. | Crisp typically ships with a single proprietary or vendor-selected model, not a choice across providers. |

Solveo AI and Crisp both offer live chat with a chatbot layer, but Crisp's chatbot builder is typically gated to its higher-tier plans, while Solveo AI includes a full AI agent on every plan, including Free. The bigger difference is channel breadth: Crisp is primarily a chat widget and shared inbox, while Solveo AI covers 11 channels from one dashboard.

## Where the platforms differ most

Crisp offers a shareable chat link as one of its features, similar in spirit to Solveo AI's Agent Page channel — a hosted, branded chat page with no widget install or embed code. The difference is what's behind the conversation: a Solveo AI agent on the Agent Page has the same knowledge base, actions, and escalation rules as every other channel, so switching between the widget, WhatsApp, or the Agent Page doesn't mean reconfiguring the AI from scratch.

## Channel coverage

Solveo AI includes the chat widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, a hosted Agent Page, and a branded help center — all backed by one knowledge base and one AI agent, rather than separate configurations per channel.

### Solveo AI vs Chatbase

How Solveo AI compares to Chatbase on AI approach, pricing model, channel coverage, and setup time.

| Aspect | Solveo AI | Chatbase |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AI approach | AI-first: every plan, including Free, includes a full autonomous AI agent. | AI is typically layered onto Chatbase's core helpdesk/messaging product, often as a separate add-on. |
| Pricing model | Flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month, unlimited AI usage within each plan's conversation limit. | Check Chatbase's current pricing page directly — helpdesk pricing models change frequently and often separate seats from AI add-on costs. |
| Channels | 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce. | Channel coverage and which channels include AI vary by Chatbase plan — see their current documentation for specifics. |
| Setup | No-code agent builder with guided onboarding. Most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes. | Setup time varies with how much of Chatbase's AI configuration and knowledge base import is required. |
| AI providers | Choose from 10 providers (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, Z.AI) per agent. | Chatbase typically ships with a single proprietary or vendor-selected model, not a choice across providers. |

Solveo AI and Chatbase both help teams put an AI support agent in front of customers. Chatbase is commonly used to build a website agent from uploaded files or a crawled URL. Solveo AI was built AI-first for the same job and then deploys that agent across 11 channels from one dashboard.

## Where the platforms differ most

Solveo AI includes a chat widget and also WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, a hosted agent page, and a branded help center — all sharing one knowledge base and one set of escalation rules. Check Chatbase's current documentation for which surfaces they support today; channel menus change and we do not treat third-party marketing pages as a durable source.

The second difference is model choice. Solveo AI lets you pick from 10 AI providers — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, Groq, Cohere, Perplexity, and Z.AI — per agent. Chatbase's model options are set by Chatbase; confirm them on their current site if that is a deciding factor.

Pricing should be compared against published pages on both sides. Solveo AI uses flat monthly tiers from $0 to $349/month with AI included up to each plan's conversation limit. Enterprise is custom.

## Moving from Chatbase

Export or copy the content you already use to ground the agent. Import it into the Solveo AI knowledge base (upload, website crawl, or Q&A entries), then connect the widget or any other channel. Most teams complete this in an afternoon.

## Alternatives

### Best Intercom Alternative for AI-First Support

Looking for an Intercom alternative? Solveo AI ships a full AI agent on every plan instead of layering AI onto a messaging inbox.

- AI agent included on every plan, including Free — not a separate add-on to configure and pay for.
- Choose from 10 AI providers per agent instead of a single vendor-selected model.
- One-click Shopify and WooCommerce integrations with live order, cart, and product access.
- Flat monthly pricing from $0 to $349/month; no separate per-resolution AI billing to track.

Solveo AI is an AI-first alternative to Intercom for teams that want a complete AI agent included on every plan, rather than a messaging inbox with AI layered on as a separate add-on.

The most common reason teams look for an Intercom alternative is cost predictability: Intercom prices seats and its Fin AI agent separately, so total spend depends on team size and AI usage. Solveo AI uses flat monthly pricing from $0 to $349/month with AI included in every tier's conversation limit, making cost easier to forecast.

The second common reason is model flexibility. Solveo AI supports 10 AI providers per agent, so you're not locked to a single vendor-selected model.

Migrating is straightforward: export your Intercom help center content, import it into the Solveo AI knowledge base, and connect the channels you already use. See the full feature-by-feature breakdown at [Solveo AI vs Intercom](/compare/intercom).

### Best Zendesk Alternative for AI-First Support

Looking for a Zendesk alternative? Solveo AI is built AI-first for teams that want autonomous resolution across every channel.

- No-code agent builder — most teams launch a first agent in under 10 minutes, without an implementation project.
- AI resolves conversations autonomously by default across 11 channels, not just within a ticketing inbox.
- Native integrations: WooCommerce, Cal.com, Calendly, HubSpot.
- Enterprise plan available for teams that need SLA guarantees and dedicated support when migrating off a larger platform.

Solveo AI is an AI-first alternative to Zendesk for teams that want autonomous resolution across every channel rather than a ticketing system with AI features added on top.

Zendesk's core workflow assumes most conversations become tickets a human eventually reviews. Solveo AI's AI agent is the first responder by default on all 11 supported channels, escalating to a human only when a rule triggers — sentiment, topic, or an explicit request for a person.

Teams that want a full switch can move onto Solveo AI's own channels. The Enterprise plan covers the SLA guarantees and dedicated support larger teams need.

See the full comparison at [Solveo AI vs Zendesk](/compare/zendesk).

### Best Gorgias Alternative for Shopify & WooCommerce AI Support

Looking for a Gorgias alternative? Solveo AI supports Shopify and WooCommerce natively with an AI agent across 11 channels.

- One-click Shopify OAuth plus a Theme App Extension — no ScriptTag, no manual embed code.
- A free WooCommerce plugin connects the Store API for equally deep e-commerce support.
- The same AI agent also runs on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, WordPress, a help page, an agent chat page, and the API.
- 10 AI provider choices per agent rather than a single fixed model.

Solveo AI is a Gorgias alternative for Shopify and WooCommerce stores that want an AI agent covering the storefront and every other support channel from one dashboard.

The Shopify integration mirrors what Gorgias offers — one-click OAuth, live access to products, orders, carts, and customer profiles — but delivered through a Theme App Extension rather than a ScriptTag. WooCommerce is supported natively via a free WordPress plugin, an integration depth Gorgias doesn't match for that platform.

Beyond e-commerce, the same AI agent also covers WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, WordPress, a help page, and a hosted agent page, all sharing one knowledge base — useful for stores that field support questions outside the Shopify or WooCommerce admin.

See the full comparison at [Solveo AI vs Gorgias](/compare/gorgias).

### Best Tidio Alternative for Advanced AI Support

Looking for a Tidio alternative with more advanced AI than rule-based chat flows? Solveo AI grounds every conversation in your own knowledge base.

- Retrieval-augmented answers from your own documents on every plan, not just scripted flows.
- Agents can take real actions — order lookups, cart updates, bookings — not only answer questions.
- Free plan (50 conversations/month, no credit card) built for the same small-business audience Tidio targets.
- 11 channels included instead of a widget-first feature set.

Solveo AI is a Tidio alternative for teams that have outgrown rule-based chat flows and want an AI agent that answers from a real knowledge base and can take action, not just follow a script.

Tidio combines scripted flows with AI chat features; when a question falls outside a configured rule, the experience typically degrades to a generic response or a handoff. Solveo AI grounds every conversation in retrieval-augmented generation against your own documents, and agents can call real actions — order lookups, cart updates, bookings — rather than only displaying text.

Solveo AI's Free plan (50 conversations/month, no credit card) and $39/month Starter plan target the same small-business audience Tidio serves, so switching doesn't mean jumping to enterprise pricing.

See the full comparison at [Solveo AI vs Tidio](/compare/tidio).

### Best Crisp Alternative for Multi-Channel AI Support

Looking for a Crisp alternative with more channels and a full AI agent on every plan? Solveo AI covers 11 channels from one dashboard.

- 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce.
- AI agent included at every tier rather than gated behind a chatbot-builder plan.
- A hosted Agent Page gives you a shareable chat URL with no widget install, similar to Crisp's shareable chat link but backed by a full AI agent.
- Native Shopify and WooCommerce integrations for e-commerce teams.

Solveo AI is a Crisp alternative for teams that want a full AI agent included at every tier and channel coverage beyond a single chat widget.

Crisp's chatbot builder is typically limited to its higher-tier plans; Solveo AI includes a complete AI agent starting on the free plan. Where Crisp offers a shareable chat link, Solveo AI's Agent Page channel provides the same hosted, no-embed-code experience, backed by the identical knowledge base and escalation rules used across the widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Slack.

See the full comparison at [Solveo AI vs Crisp](/compare/crisp).

### Best Chatbase Alternative for Multi-Channel AI Support

Looking for a Chatbase alternative? Solveo AI ships an AI agent on every plan and deploys the same agent across 11 channels, not only a website widget.

- AI agent included on every plan, including Free.
- Choose from 10 AI providers per agent.
- 11 channels included: Chat Widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Help Page, Agent Chat Page, Slack, WordPress, API, Shopify, WooCommerce.
- Flat monthly pricing from $0 to $349/month with AI included in each plan's conversation limit.

Solveo AI is an AI-first alternative to Chatbase for teams that want one agent on a website widget and on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Slack — not a website-only starting point.

The usual reasons teams look beyond a website-agent builder are channel coverage and model choice. Solveo AI includes 11 channels and 10 AI providers on every plan, including Free. Flat monthly pricing runs from $0 to $349/month.

Migration is a content move: copy or export your source material into the Solveo AI knowledge base, then connect channels. See the full breakdown at [Solveo AI vs Chatbase](/compare/chatbase).

## Glossary

### AI Agent

An AI agent is software that uses a large language model to understand requests and take autonomous action, rather than following a fixed script.

An **AI agent** is software that uses a large language model to understand a request in natural language and take autonomous action toward a goal, rather than following a fixed decision tree. In customer support, an AI agent can answer questions grounded in a [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base), look up an order, update a cart, or book an appointment — and escalate to a human when a rule requires it.

## AI agent vs. traditional chatbot

A rule-based chatbot matches user input against predefined patterns and returns a scripted response; anything outside those patterns fails or hands off. An AI agent, powered by [conversational AI](/glossary/conversational-ai), can handle novel phrasing and multi-step requests, and can call external tools (like an e-commerce API) to complete the request rather than only describing what to do.

## Where AI agents are deployed

Solveo AI agents deploy across 11 channels — chat widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Slack, Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, a hosted agent page, a branded help center, and the API — sharing one knowledge base and one set of [escalation](/glossary/escalation) rules regardless of channel.

### RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)

RAG is a technique where an AI model retrieves relevant information from a knowledge base before generating an answer, so responses stay grounded in real, current facts.

**Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)** is a technique where an AI model retrieves relevant passages from a [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base) before generating a response, rather than answering purely from what it learned during training. This keeps answers grounded in current, specific, and verifiable information.

## Why RAG matters for customer support

A language model trained months or years ago has no knowledge of your current return policy, product catalog, or pricing. RAG closes that gap: when a customer asks a question, the system searches your documents for the most relevant sections, then generates an answer using only that retrieved context. This is what lets an [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) give accurate, on-brand answers instead of plausible-sounding guesses.

## RAG and hallucination

RAG doesn't eliminate the possibility of an AI model generating an incorrect statement, but it substantially reduces it by anchoring the response to retrieved source text rather than the model's general training data alone.

### Knowledge Base

A knowledge base is the collection of documents, articles, and FAQs an AI agent retrieves from to answer questions accurately, using retrieval-augmented generation.

A **knowledge base**, in the context of AI customer support, is the collection of documents, help articles, and FAQs an [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) retrieves from using [RAG](/glossary/rag) to answer questions accurately.

## What goes into a knowledge base

Typical sources include existing help center articles, product documentation, internal policy documents, and previously answered support tickets. The AI agent indexes this content and retrieves the most relevant sections for each incoming question, rather than relying only on general training knowledge.

## Knowledge base and ticket deflection

A well-maintained knowledge base is the foundation of [ticket deflection](/glossary/ticket-deflection) — the more accurately an AI agent can answer from existing content, the fewer questions escalate to a human.

### Escalation (Live Chat Handoff)

Escalation is the process of handing a conversation from an AI agent to a human — automatically, based on rules like sentiment, topic, or an explicit request.

**Escalation**, also called live chat handoff, is the process of transferring a conversation from an [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) to a human — automatically, based on rules such as detected sentiment, topic, an explicit request from the customer, or the AI agent reaching the limit of what it can resolve.

## Why escalation rules matter

Escalation is what makes AI-first support safe to deploy broadly: the AI agent handles repetitive, well-defined questions automatically, while conversations that need judgment, contain a complaint, or explicitly ask for a person are routed to a human without the customer having to repeat themselves.

## Escalation across channels

In a [multi-channel support](/glossary/multi-channel-support) setup, the same escalation rules apply regardless of whether the conversation started on the chat widget, WhatsApp, or Slack — the handoff carries the full conversation context to the human agent.

### Conversational AI

Conversational AI refers to systems that understand and generate natural language to hold open-ended dialogue, as opposed to rule-based chatbots limited to predefined flows.

**Conversational AI** refers to systems that understand and generate natural language to hold open-ended dialogue, as opposed to rule-based chatbots limited to predefined decision trees.

## Conversational AI vs. scripted chatbots

A scripted chatbot matches input against a fixed set of patterns; anything outside those patterns fails or falls back to a generic message. Conversational AI, powered by a large language model, can interpret novel phrasing, follow multi-turn context, and — when combined with [RAG](/glossary/rag) — answer accurately from a specific [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base) rather than generic training data.

## Conversational AI in an AI agent

An [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) uses conversational AI as its language layer, combined with the ability to call real actions (order lookups, bookings, cart updates), turning dialogue into completed tasks rather than just answers.

### Ticket Deflection

Ticket deflection is resolving a customer's question before it becomes a support ticket a human has to handle — typically via self-serve answers or an AI agent.

**Ticket deflection** is resolving a customer's question before it becomes a support ticket that a human has to handle — typically through self-serve content or an [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) answering directly.

## How ticket deflection is measured

Deflection rate is usually calculated as the percentage of incoming conversations resolved without human involvement. A well-grounded [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base) is the biggest lever: the more accurately an AI agent can answer from existing content, the higher the deflection rate.

## Deflection vs. full automation

Deflection doesn't mean every conversation is automated — it means the repetitive, well-understood questions are resolved automatically, while genuinely novel or sensitive conversations still reach a human via [escalation](/glossary/escalation).

### Multi-Channel Support

Multi-channel support means answering customers wherever they reach out — chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Slack — from one unified system with shared context.

**Multi-channel support** means answering customers wherever they reach out — chat widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Slack — from one unified system that shares context across channels, rather than separate tools per channel.

## Why shared context matters

Without multi-channel support, a customer who starts on WhatsApp and follows up on chat has to repeat themselves, and a support team has to check multiple inboxes. With it, an [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) draws on the same [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base) and conversation history regardless of channel, and [escalation](/glossary/escalation) rules apply consistently everywhere.

## Common channels

Typical channels include a website chat widget, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, Slack, Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, a hosted agent chat page, a branded self-serve help center, and the API.

### Lead Scoring

Lead scoring is ranking prospective customers by how likely they are to convert, based on signals like conversation intent, stated budget, or engagement — often automated by an AI sales agent.

**Lead scoring** is ranking prospective customers by how likely they are to convert, based on signals like stated intent, budget, timeline, or engagement during a conversation.

## How AI changes lead scoring

Traditionally, lead scoring relied on form fields and page-visit data. An [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) handling a sales conversation via [conversational AI](/glossary/conversational-ai) can score a lead from the conversation itself — what the prospect asked about, objections raised, and explicit buying signals — often more accurately than static form data alone.

## Lead scoring and handoff

High-scoring leads are typically escalated to a human sales rep immediately (see [escalation](/glossary/escalation)), while lower-intent conversations continue with the AI agent nurturing interest or answering product questions.

### AI Agents vs. Rule-Based Chatbots: What's the Difference?

Rule-based chatbots follow scripted decision trees. AI agents understand open-ended requests and take action. Here's how to tell which one you're evaluating.

An **AI agent** and a **rule-based chatbot** solve the same broad problem — answering customers automatically — but work in fundamentally different ways, and the difference determines what you can and can't automate.

## How rule-based chatbots work

A rule-based chatbot matches a customer's message against a fixed set of patterns or a decision tree you configure in advance: "if the message contains X, show response Y." This works well for a small, predictable set of questions, but breaks down quickly outside that set. A slightly rephrased question, a multi-part request, or anything the designer didn't anticipate either fails to match or triggers a generic fallback.

## How AI agents work

An [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) uses a large language model to understand the intent behind a message, regardless of exact phrasing. Combined with [retrieval-augmented generation](/glossary/rag), it retrieves the relevant section of your [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base) and generates a specific, grounded answer — and can go further by calling real actions like an order lookup or a booking, rather than only displaying text.

## The practical difference

| | Rule-based chatbot | AI agent |
|---|---|---|
| Handles novel phrasing | No — needs an exact or close pattern match | Yes |
| Grounded in your documents | Only if manually scripted | Automatically, via RAG |
| Takes real actions (orders, bookings) | Rarely, and requires custom integration work per flow | Native to the platform |
| Setup effort | Manual flow-building for every scenario | Configure a knowledge base and channels; the model handles phrasing variation |

## When a rule-based chatbot is still the right choice

If your support volume is genuinely narrow — a handful of fixed questions with no variation — a simple rule-based widget can be enough, and cheaper to run. Once question variety grows, or you want the system to take real action rather than just respond, an AI agent scales better without a proportional increase in configuration work.

### How to Reduce Support Ticket Volume with an AI Agent

A practical breakdown of where AI agents deflect the most repetitive tickets, and how to measure the impact after deployment.

Reducing support ticket volume with an AI agent comes down to one metric: **[ticket deflection](/glossary/ticket-deflection)** — the percentage of incoming conversations resolved without a human touching them. Here's where deflection actually comes from, and how to measure it after deployment.

## Where deflection comes from

Most support volume clusters around a small number of repeated questions: order status, return policy, account setup, pricing. An [AI agent](/glossary/ai-agent) grounded in your [knowledge base](/glossary/knowledge-base) via [RAG](/glossary/rag) resolves exactly this category automatically, because the answer already exists in your documentation — the agent just needs to retrieve and phrase it correctly.

The second source of deflection is action-taking: questions that used to require a human to check an order system or booking calendar can be resolved directly if the AI agent has API access to look it up itself, rather than just describing where to look.

## Setting up for high deflection

1. **Start with your existing help center.** Import current articles and FAQs into the knowledge base before writing anything new — most of the content you need probably already exists.
2. **Connect the systems your answers depend on.** Order status, subscription details, and booking availability all deflect better when the AI agent can query the live system instead of giving a generic answer.
3. **Set clear [escalation](/glossary/escalation) rules.** Deflection isn't about avoiding humans entirely — it's about routing only the conversations that need a human to a human, quickly and with full context.
4. **Measure before and after.** Track ticket volume reaching your human queue for at least two weeks before launch and after, on the same channels, to isolate the effect of the AI agent from seasonal variation.

## What to expect

Deflection rate varies by how repetitive your support volume is and how complete your knowledge base is at launch. Teams typically see the largest jump in the first month as the knowledge base gaps get filled from real conversation logs, then a slower, steady improvement as coverage broadens.

## Guides

### How to add an AI support agent to your website

Create a Solveo AI agent, customize the chat widget, and paste the embed script before your site's closing body tag.

1. Create a free account and an agent — Sign up at /register, then open Agents in the dashboard and create an agent. Pick a template or start from scratch, name the agent, and choose an AI provider.
2. Add knowledge so the agent can answer — Open the agent's knowledge base and upload documents, crawl a website URL, or add Q&A entries. See /docs/quick-start for the full first-agent path.
3. Customize the chat widget — Open Agents, select the agent, go to Widgets, and open the widget builder. Set colors, size, position, and branding in the left panel while the preview updates on the right.
4. Copy the embed script — In the widget builder, copy the embed script and paste it before the closing body tag of your website. The widget goes live as soon as the page loads.

The chat widget is one of 12 Solveo AI channels. The same agent, knowledge base, and escalation rules run on the widget and on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, and the other channels.

For the first-agent walkthrough, see [Quick Start](/docs/quick-start). For colors, position, and embed details, see [Widget Builder](/docs/widget-builder).

### How to train an AI agent on your website

Ground a Solveo AI agent on your own site by crawling a URL, uploading documents, or adding Q&A entries in the knowledge base.

1. Open the knowledge base — In the dashboard, open your agent and go to the knowledge base. This is where uploaded files, crawled pages, and Q&A entries are indexed.
2. Crawl your website — Choose Website Crawl, paste a root URL, and set the maximum number of pages. The crawler follows that site and shows progress while pages are indexed.
3. Add documents or Q&A for precise answers — Upload PDF, DOCX, or TXT files, or add Q&A entries for FAQs and policy statements. Q&A entries take priority over document-derived answers.
4. Re-crawl when the site changes — Run the website crawl again whenever docs or product pages change so the agent keeps answering from current content.

Solveo AI retrieves answers from your knowledge base rather than guessing. A website crawl is the fastest way to ground an agent on public docs or a help center. Uploads and Q&A entries cover policies and files that are not on the public site.

Full source types and limits are in [Knowledge Base](/docs/knowledge-base).

### How to hand AI conversations off to a human

Set escalation rules so a Solveo AI agent shows Talk to a human and places the conversation in the Live Chat queue.

1. Open live chat escalation settings — In the dashboard, open the agent and go to the live chat / escalation settings documented at /docs/live-chat.
2. Add an escalation rule — Create a rule using a documented trigger: negative sentiment, keyword match, message count, low confidence, intent, or outside business hours.
3. Confirm the Talk to a human handoff — When a rule fires, the agent shows a Talk to a human button or stops and creates a handoff. The conversation appears under Live Chat → Queue.
4. Reply from the team queue — A human teammate opens Live Chat → Queue, takes the conversation, and replies. The customer stays in the same thread.

Not every conversation should stay with the AI agent. Escalation rules decide when the customer sees Talk to a human and when the thread moves to your team.

See [Live Chat & Escalation](/docs/live-chat) for every trigger and the queue workflow.
